Good afternoon everybody by Giulio Centemero on giuliocentemero.com.
As an article of the 26th October of the Financial Times says, with this government “Italy’s statist instincts resurface under the cover of Covid”. The article, signed by Sciorilli Borrelli and Johnson, describes some transactions in which private players were excluded or, e.g. like KKR in the Telecom deal, the transactions were postponed. We have also to add the fact that over the summer from the so called August Decree the majority removed a rule assigning CONSOB the same powers of e.g. the British and Spanish equivalent bodies: fortunately we intervened robustly and the rule was reintroduced. This strong presence of the State in contrast with a healthy free market economy is dangerous and we can’t accept that the government bears public dept in order to acquire assets instead of helping the real economy to recover during the pandemic. What can we expect from a government whose minster of the Economy used to be a member of the Communist Party? Moreover the five stars MP Ricciardi in his speech after Conte’s communications of last week at the Chamber do Deputies, pointed at privatizations as one of the causes of the pandemic. Tomorrow Conte will come again to the Parliament, who’s gonna be the next scapegoat?
